...The Land Knows The Truth: A Solo Exhibition by Jamele Wright Sr.
Mixed Media indigo-dyed found canvas, soaked in the ocean, sun-dried on the beach on Sullivan's Island.
Former Visiting Artist, Jamele Wright Sr., returns to the Gibbes to display his collection of abstract landscapes depicting the scenic landscape of the Lowcountry with a focus on the region's beauty and the emotional echoes of the lives of those who have inhabited this area, reverberating throughout the Lowcountry.
“These landscapes on cotton soaked in indigo then into the ocean, represents those that first touched shore and their descendants. A place familiar and yet not familiar. So I asked myself, what keep them going, what gave them hope, what could they see? I heard a voice on the breeze, “You” they could see me.”
